Flats and houses in almost whole Great Britain are sprcific and they differ from typical West-European houses. If you are going to buy a flat or house in GB, then you should first see how they look like and what you really buy ;)
Kitchen is a special place for many British. It actually shows us the real face of the house owner. Dirty and neglected makes bad impression on the visitor. So it's not too plausible that you enter yours fiend's or family's house and see kitchen looking like the room in most polish houses ;)
Kitchen furniture sets in GB aren't actually expencive. You can buy effectiv equipment for a really low price. But you shouldn't cheer too early... Our happiness
of saved money wont last long. When it comes turn to buy the kitchen appiliance like fridge, washing maschine etc. you will quickly realise that they cost much more than in West-Europe.
Kitchen faucets have almost always only one tap with hot and cold water joined together. Some time ago faucets uset to have two taps - one with hot water and the other with cold - but this solution was unpractical in kitchen so British assimilated with the rest of Europe and now they use only one-tap faucet. But the idea of two-tapped faucet is still used in british bathrooms.
Dining-room in flats is connected with kitchen, actually it's one room. In houses
we can find seperated room designed especially for eating but in most modern houses kitchen and dining room is also connected by a big "window" in the wall.
Bathroom in most british houses is connected with WC but it's not a principle. In older houses and in flats we will find seperated bathroom and WC. As i mentioned before double-tap sink is typical for british bathrooms and it may seem a little bit
strange for most europeans ;) In order to wash your hands you have to fill the sink with a compound of hot and cold water.
The outfit of british bathrooms doesn't differ much from european bathroom. You will always find there a shower, a sink and often also a bath in which we will find mentioned before double-tap faucet. English flushes are also characteristic for GB. It's not a "button" like in Eurpoe but some kind of a small lever ;)
Living room is the main room in whole house, just like in other european countries. You will find there of corse a sofa, a table and a TV. Very often, mainly in
houses, there is a fireplace built-in the wall. Living room is importand cause the British spend a lot of their free time there ;)
Living room isn't included in the number of rooms while selling. If you see an add where there is written that offerred flat contains 2 rooms it means that there is a living room and two other rooms... ;)
Bedroom is also a special place for the British. You wont find there anything that
should not be found in bedroom. There is of corse a bed and a big wardrobe, often with mirrors.
Buying a flat in the city center you should pay attention to the location of bedroom in the flat. It should not be facing any kind of hihg street etc. It will for sure influecne on our comfort by the time we sleep ;)
Gas, electricity, water... we'll find them in all houses... It's not the age when electricity was a rarity ;)
Gas and electricity can be paid in two ways - normally, paying each month for what we used or you can also make a pre-pay and you will be able to use as much as you have paid for.
Gas in GB is better quality than in Europe. While burning it emits 1/3 more warmth than the european gas. When you made a pre-pay for gas, then you can expect a
few pounds debt in critical situations when you use more than you have paid for ;)
Sockets in GB are different from these in the rest of Europe. But you can buy some kind of a protractor which allows you to use devices from Europe. Due to safety you wont find any sockets in the bathroom; or maybe only 10V sockets for electric shavers etc.
The cost of water is actually the cost of gas or electricity that is needed to boil the water. Water itself isn't expencive. In bigger cities it contains chemical ameliorators so it's not recommended to drink water directly form the faucet.
Just like the water, you can heat the whole house with electricity or gas. In both cases there are heaters in rooms. Gas heaters are connected with the main bioler. They are connected by pipes normally hidden under the floor. Electric heaters are connected directly with a socket.
Notice. When buying a flat in GB you should pay particular attention to it's environs. Flats which are closer to the city centrer are of corse more expencive but we dont have to pay for everydays travel to work. If you want to buy a house like
this you should take into account the noise. You should avoid flats or houses near high streets and all kinds of pubs and clubs. At saturday night they can be really annnoying ;)
Animal lovers need to get a special permition which allows us to keep animals at home. You can get such permition from the flat's owner or housing cooperative.
